 EDIBLE GARDEN IN THE SHOW

Single RoseWe are excited to announce that the team from Malibu Compost, headed up by owner Randy Ritchie, are building the edible garden exhibition for the 2013 Show. This adventurous and educational garden will be under the great tent outside Fiesta Hall, close to the seminar rooms.

Randy and company have recently revitalized the Oakland Morcom Rose Garden using their Biodynamic methods, compost teas and compost. The roses are now flourishing without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers which have been banned by Oakland City in its public gardens. Imagine - growing healthy beautiful roses without chemicals.

BU, SpokescowBu, the spokescow, and her friends are big part of the story - dairy cow manure endows the earth with powerful fertilizing and healing forces that chicken manure, steer manure, horse manure, and bat guano simply don’t have. Why? Because a dairy cow has an unequaled digestive process which is enhanced by cosmic-life giving forces in her hooves and horns that enable the nitrogen in her manure to re-kindle life within the earth.

And what the bleep is Biodynamic anyhow?

Simply put it is treating the soil as a living organism and adding to it so that it becomes stronger, healthier, more fertile, and able to combat plant diseases.

Malibu biodynamic compost, Bu's Blend, blends love, compassion, dairy cow manure, manger straw, biodynamic wood chips, homeopathic concentrations of yarrow, chamomile, valerian, stinging nettle, dandelion and oak bark into a potent mixture composted in long windrows close to those rescue dairy cows (another Malibu project).

The Malibu Compost team together with the rose grower from Morcom Gardens will be lecturing both on the seminar stage and in the garden - so watch the schedule for their appearances and visit the edible garden under the big tent to learn more.
