THE MAKING OF A FLOWER SHOW

Ever wondered about how much work goes into making 25 beautiful full-scale gardens indoors? This time-lapse video shows you the incredible amount of soil, sweat and plants needed to create the gardens at the West Coast’s two major flower shows every year – the Northwest Flower & Garden Show at the Washington State Convention Center and the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show at the San Mateo Event Center.  12 frantic days of activity (5 of move-in, 5 show days and 2 of move-out) are compressed into 7 ½ minutes.

SAN FRANCISCO GARDEN SHOW 1950

In the 1950s the largest flower show in the country was in Oakland, bigger than even the shows in Philadelphia and Boston at that time. This rare archival footage provides some sense of the impressive quality of this Show held more than 50 years ago. This show ceased production in the 1970s when it lost its venue in Oakland. There is a grand tradition of world-class flower shows in the Bay area. The present San Francisco Flower & Garden Show represents the proud continuation of this tradition.
