Sproutopia: for Kids!

SPROUTOPIA: A PLACE FOR KIDS!



Looking for something to do with the kids? Our children's area is full of great hands-on activities and demonstrations fun for the whole family. “Sproutopia! A place for Kids” is a place for fun for all your budding gardeners. The young and old alike will enjoy a stroll through this imaginative feature of the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show.

The Show provides garden and art based activities to inspire kids of all ages to discover gardening. You will have fun and be rewarded through hands-on activities that will provide a educational experience at the Show. Our Children’s Gardens created by Bay Area school children beautify the children's area. Created by students at local schools these tiny garden amaze and delight with their imaginative complexity.

This year the Show will feature activities that will inspire your future gardener. Including activities with bees, flowers, and seed activities to educate and delight. In Sproutopia you will find custom playhouses by artist and builder Barbara Butler. Barbara's beautiful play structures have been featured in numerous publications. They have stared in movies and on television shows, such as The Oprah Winfrey Show and HGTV. Butler has successfully combined childhood fantasies with architectural know-how to create a world of enchantment right in a family's own backyard.
 
The playhouses appearing at the Show have been altered for public use, so children are welcome to explore inside them and experience the fun of these imaginative and unique structures firsthand. Let your child’s imagination run wild!

   

BAY AREA CARNIVIVOROUS PLANT SOCIETY


Bay Area Carnivorous Plant Society

One of the largest carnivorous plant societies in the world will host a Carnivorous Plant display in Sproutopia. Children can learn how plants eat with regular feedings scheduled throughout the day and learn why the plants adapted to eat as they do. They also will learn how to care for their own pet carnivorous plant!

  • Pot up a meat eating plant to take home,
    and learn how to care for it.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 26 & 27, 2011 we will have fun presentations for families on the Sprout Stage in Sproutopia, including Bonsai for Kids and composting classes.
